Objective of the programme:

This large scale programme aims to promote regional food market development in East and Southern Africa. The programme will utilise the Making Markets Work for the Poor (M4P) approach and value chain development methodologies to ensure that interventions are pro-poor and inclusive of vulnerable groups. The programme will work on national and regional food staples markets, including:
  •     Supply chain coordination and information systems
  •     Markets for inputs and services
  •     Storage and collateral systems
  •     Regional and National Policy coherence

Objective of the role:

We are seeking applications from highly experienced specialist for the role of Storage Technology Specialist. The Storage Technology Specialist will champion developments and improvements of food storage facilities.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  •     Review the current state of storage facilities and develop ways to make them profitable
  •     Champion the development of inventory credit and sound warehouse receipts systems
  •     Champion developments of on farm storage and small trader warehouses
  •     Develop effective methods for stock managements
  •     Work with existing private sectors to encourage more storage developments

Requirements:
  •     Solid Experience in storage technology on a large and small scale
  •     Experience in commodity exchange
  •     Experience in developing and implementing sound storage interventions to improve market functioning
  •     Extensive networks of private sector and other industry players in the Southern and Eastern Africa

Project Location: The Project will be based in the Southern or Eastern Africa

Length of the project:

5 years

December 2012
